Biological Dentistry

In our practice, we treat patients according to the principle of holistic dental medicine and according to the rules of biological dentistry. All treatments are metal-free (dentures, fillings, and dental implants are made of ceramic), holistic diagnosis and material compatiblity testing by means of electro acupuncture, interference field search of existing sites of inflammation on the body, lüscher color test, lymph drainage, professional removal of amalgam fillings and replacement with Cerec ceramic fillings.

Ceramic fillings - "CEREC"

Ceramic inlays made following the CEREC procedure have been established for more than 20 years in modern dentistry. During this process the fillings (inlays) are made from a special ceramic material and are then "glued" into the tooth.

What makes this ceramic inlay so valuable?

  • The conservative preparation maintains healthy tooth structure, the surfaces usually stay intact.
  • Stable bonding of super-thin layers of tooth structure and fillings carved out for perfect fit: This leads to greater stability than with amalgam or gold fillings.
  • The filling does not shrink. Which means that the filling provides a long-lasting seal against penetration of bacteria.
  • Biocompatibility, because we use ceramics: no metal, no immune response or allergies.
  • CEREC does not leave edges like fillings or crowns, but an abrasion-resistant bonding seam. This prevents irritation of the gum line.
  • Natural coloring: Individual adjustment of ceramic color to tooth color. Filling and healthy tooth blend together.
  • Even very large defects can be ideally treated with CEREC fillings. These cases particularly benefit from the high stability produced with the ceramic adhesion process.

How does it work?

At first the old filling or the decayed area of the tooth is removed. The defect is now prepared as far as necessary and photographed. Our computer uses the collected data to calculate a three-dimensional image, which serves as the basis for designing the inlay filling.

A milling machine carves the actual restoration out of an industrially prefabricated ceramic block in a color matching your tooth under computer control. The dentist will remove the fine grinding ridges and adjust the inlay to the neighboring teeth.
Now the bonding process can begin: The tooth, as well as the ceramic inlay undergo a pre-treatment and are then immediately and resiliently bonded.

Crowns and bridges made from Pressable Ceramics

Using the latest computer technology, we produce inlays, crowns and bridges made from ceramic, completely abandoning the use of metal. The material used is named "Zirconia".

How does this work?

After preparing the tooth and removing its cavity we will take an impression that will be measured by a digital 3D scanner. Using this data, the computer program CAD/CAM is able to design your dentures. A computer-controlled milling machine will then cut out the exact form from a ceramic block - this procedure will we done at Dr. Hager's own laboratory. By adding another layer of special ceramics our dental technicians will adjust the color and shape for a perfect finish that matches your set of teeth exactly.

What makes this treatment so valuable?

These kinds of crowns and bridges are suitable for people suffering from allergies. Not containing metals, they are also easy to handle for your organism. A natural tooth is translucent. Tooth replacements that include metallic components are not fully translucent, making them look less lifelike. By using the new Zirconia Ceramics, this negative effect is avoided as it lets light come through. Another material advantage is given by the white color, so you no longer have the problem with dark metal edges that could appear from time to time. As you can see, this ceramic material is an ideal possibility for aesthetical front teeth. It also offers beautiful and natural results in the lateral tooth area.

Electro-Acupuncture

What does EAV diagnostic mean? Today we have experienced how some people react with hypersensitivity to different materials or have chronic illnesses that are caused or exacerbated by permanent sources of inflammation in the mouth and jaw area.

Indications of disturbances that can trigger chronic illnesses are measured

In order to get to the reason for these effects, we can perform measurements of "energy potential" at the meridian points, similar to Chinese acupuncture, by means of a special measuring device. In so doing, we can determine if certain materials or even chronic inflammation in the head area are causing hypersensitivity or other stresses.

These relationships are often not easily determined in a skin allergy test or with the use of x-rays, and so these small energy measurements are helpful clues to disturbances that can trigger chronic illnesses. With a measuring electrode, a specific (pain-free) pressure is applied to the skin in order to sample the reaction via the measuring device.
With homeopathically prepared materials (such as silver, quicksilver, amalgam), filled in small ampules and introduced into the measuring circuit, the incompatibilities are more closely specified.

In this way, we can give you a more precise indication of specific hypersensitivities or infected teeth, and with it determine your therapy in our practice entirely individually, selecting materials with greater assurance and specifying more exactly which teeth in the therapy plan are "reliable". In this way we achieve a large measure of planning certainty and success in our therapy and your dental health.

Metal free Ceramic Implants

These days, ceramic implants are composed of zirconia ceramics, which is an extremely shatter-resistant material that offers optimum biocompatibility. And because they are white in color, ceramic implants appear very much like natural teeth. This aesthetic advantage is hugely beneficial, particularly when treating visible areas (e.g. front teeth). This is especially true if the associated gum tissue is very thin. Zirconia implants are metal free, which is a bonus for allergy sufferers.

Advantages of zirconia implants:

      • Great appearance and no showing of the implants, as they are tooth-colored
      • Very high gum compatibility (tissue tolerance)
      • Durability and stability like titanium implants
      • Compatible with all modern preparation and surgical techniques

Disadvantages of zirconia implants:

  • Demanding for the patient: the ceramic implant needs to rest until its completely healed
  • No long-term studies available

Due to its many interesting attributes, the field of ceramic implants is a current focal point in international implantology research. Since 2004, we have successfully deployed various ceramic implant systems. The development of new ceramic surfaces has paved the way for considerable advances in the field of immediately loadable ceramic implants. There are few long-term studies into ceramic implants, as they are still a relatively recent invention, as compared to titanium implants.

Zirconia implants differ from current titanium implants in terms of surgical technique. Assuming that surgeons adhere to the somewhat more complicated treatment regulations, zirconia implants are comparable with current titanium systems when it comes to durability, and provide even better performance in terms of mucous membrane compatibility.
