Dental Implants - Frequently Asked Questions
I heard that implants last for only 5 years, is it true?
No. Long-time studies prove that the success rate of implants after 10 years is higher than 90% on average. Precondition for this is a professional realization and a careful planning of the surgery. With good health, regular check-ups and careful home care, todays implants can last a lifetime.
Is it the case that sometimes the implants are rejected?
A so-called rejection does not occur. However, an inflammation around the implant may occur due to a lack of care, so that the implant has to be removed in very unfavorable cases.
Can implants cause any damages?
Here particular accuracy and specialized training of the surgeon is necessary. Also modern equipment of the operating room like e.g. digital X-rays contributes significantly to the safety of the surgery.
Is an implantation painful?
The implantation takes place under local anesthesia so that you will not feel anything during the surgery. Only after the surgery slight negative after-effects occur normally that usually decline within a few days afterwards.
When can I go back to work after the implantation?
After the dental implantation some slight swelling and pain may occur. However, the majority of the patients are able to go back to work the following day.
How long does the surgery take?
The implantation takes 30 min. up to 2.5 hours according to what has to be done.
When will I be able to chew normally again?
As a general rule after 2-3 months you will be able to chew normally with the implant. Only with a connected build-up of bones the healing time takes about 6 months.
Up to which age implants can be done?
Basically implants can be done at every age. Exceptions are kids and youngsters still growing because the implants would handicap the growth of the jaw.
I heard of "Teeth in 1 hour", "Fast and Fixed", "Beautiful Teeth Now" in the media - can I really chew on my new implants immediately?
The procedures mentioned and several other techniques enable the integration of mostly provisional dental prostheses immediately onto the recently inserted implants. This is possible with a good bone situation, when the jaw bone doesn't have to be built up and the bone is sufficiently hard. However, the intentional protection of the dental prosthesis for 8 weeks is mandatory. After this healing time the construction of the final dental prosthesis is started and completed after another 2 weeks.
What will the implants cost?
Every patients needs dental replacement adapted to the individual mouth situation. In the personal interview we will discuss the costs together with you and you will get a cost breakdown, the price mentioned here will definitely not be exceeded. So the costs remain clear and can be a help for the important decision-making. A good decision needs time. But if you would like to get an idea of the costs only, please get in contact with our service team via our contact form.
Why are not all implants inserted according to this quick method?
You have to keep in mind that often the quick supply of implant-worn dental prosthesis does not always have advantages compared to the conventional technique: implants reliably free from bacteria, predictable aesthetics, better anchorage due to the possibility of building up the bone. Particularly with teeth that have been damaged by a severe bacterial contamination, the implantation in the still infected wound is risky.
Isn't building up the bones a very painful procedure?
Don't be afraid. Normally you will not feel any major effects once the anesthesia stops. We basically use synthetic bones for the missing bone areas. Thus the rather painful bone extraction from the jaw bone, chin, knee, rump or any other area where bone material can be extracted is not necessary. Through a so-called minimal invasive build-up technique it is possible to keep the operating area very small. The pain medication we offer is not necessary in most cases.
I would like to have ceramic implants. Is this always possible?
According to your requirements, we are able to implant ceramic or titan, certifications and a long-year experience for different systems ensure your safety. You have to keep in mind that currently all ceramic implants available are "one-piece", i.e. they tower about 5mm into the oral cavity, but mustn't be strained. This results into a high requirement on the attention and collaboration of the patient during the healing process. Especially when a bone build-up has been necessary. In the near future this will change, however. We are currently developing for ourselves a "two-piece" ceramic implant which heals protected under the mucous membrane. Only after the healing time it will be strained - like an implant out of titan.
What advantages does it have, when only one dentist team takes care of the entire treatment?
As you might have realized, in the complex field of implantology like with all medical treatments, many aspects have to be evaluated from case to case. Surgical considerations and the construction of the implant-worn dental prosthesis have to be put together. Dental solidity and long-term care have to be guaranteed. A special importance has to be drawn to the detailed and competent consultation. Here all mentioned treatment options for an extensive treatment planning will be discussed. We can offer you all possible options. All steps of the treatment will take place in our house and will be executed by our team.
