Dental Hygiene - Precaution for your teeth

Vital look with healthy teeth and gums. A professional dental hygiene can help you achieving this look. The sooner you start with it and the more regularly you visit the dental hygiene meetings, the bigger is the chance to avoid diseases and the relating measures and costs.

The source of the dental disease

The source of the dental diseases is always and solely the bacterial tooth deposits settled directly on the tooth. If we manage to remove them and keep them away, our teeth will not suffer from a disease! Our teeth are not easy to clean due to their form. There are many niches and angles that are very hard to reach with a tooth brush and so it is not always possible to achieve the necessary dental hygiene.

Therefore we offer, complementary to your own tooth care (brushing teeth, dental floss etc.), professional dental cleaning in a dental hygiene session. Here the sessions go far beyond of what is possible with home dental care.

How can we help you?

Since we started our practice about 20 years ago we have developed our own prevention programs for all ages - and have continuously improved them. Normally a session contains the following important points:

  • At first a thorough examination of your set of teeth.
  • Removal of the hard deposits on the tooth surfaces, in interdental spaces and in the gum pockets with special instruments.
  • Staining through coffee, tea or cigarette condensate will be removed with the help of a powderjet device.
  • Removal of soft deposits with different hand sets (dental floss, small brushes)
  • Polish for smoothing the teeth (bacteria firstly attack the rough parts and niches).
  • Coating of the cleaned teeth with a special fluoride varnish. (Protects from "acid attacks" of the oral bacteria)
  • Instructions for correct oral hygiene.

Mrs Meßmer during a treatment

If necessary the following treatments can be done:

In the case of endemic gingivitis (periodontitis), gum pocket secretion will be removed for a bacterial gen analyses. With this susceptibility testing we are able to determine the most efficient medication against the harmful bacteria.

In the case of endemic caries, a saliva sample is taken and an analysis of the caries bacteria contained, the saliva mineral content, the amount of saliva and the biochemical acid shield will be done.Your prophylaxis assistant additionally explains to you the use of the care products and helps you learning the correct dental care technique. The necessary items of the session will be adjusted to your individual requirements and, if necessary, amended by an additional therapy.

In the case of very deep tooth fissures (deep notches in the tooth surface) the sealing can be done by "filling" the deep fissures. By doing this the affected teeth become less susceptible to dental decay.
This professional dental cleaning should be repeated about three times a year.Beautiful and healthy - your teeth will be grateful to you.

From a healthy tooth to a Plaque formation to Periodontitis (yellow = bacterial Plaque).

Bad breath - There is a solution

Bad breath, (med. Halitosis) is still a taboo issue, it is embarrassing to talk about it. This leads to the fact that others will rarely confront us with this blemish. In Germany at least 20% of the population suffers from bad breath but only very few are aware of it. For the people concerned this means a significant aggravation of quality of life, career hindrance and deterioration of the social life in general. The source for bad breath lies, contrary to common belief, not in the gastrointestinal tract but in the oral cavity (90% of all cases).

Therapy of bad breath

A simple test will help us diagnose halitosis. If this is the case we will suggest a suitable treatment.

As a direct therapy we will conduct a special "professional tooth cleaning" removingthe bacteria in the gum pockets as well as in the interdental spaces. Further the tongue will be cleaned all the way to the root.

Additionally, the bacteria that have not been removed by the mechanical cleaning will be removed with the help of antibacterial compounds (e.g. with Chlorhexidin). For an effective halitosis treatment we will find out the actual causes with you aided by a questionnaire and then suggest a concept for the final healing.

Der dauerhafte Behandlungserfolg

After that, regular control and professional dental hygiene sessions as well as the daily use of our cleaning set (tongue cleaner, antibacterial tooth paste, etc...) normally are enough to ensure the success of the therapy. You will be rewarded with a fresh breath and a healthy impression as well as high self-esteem and you are able to enjoy your new way of life from now on.

Causes for halitosis in the oral area can be:

Bacteria on the tongue dorsum, Bacteria in the interdental spaces, Deposits on the surfaces, Bacteria in the gum pockets, Xerostomia, Mouth breathing, other infections or abscesses in the oral area, Parched mucous membranes, Snoring, Smoking, Fasting, Diet, Stress

Professional advice from our prophylaxis assistants trained specifically for the treatment of halitosis.

The right dental care

With the right care at home you can preserve your dental health. We will show you all the important methods - proper techniques for brushing your teeth, interdental brushes, the use of fluoride gels etc.

The bass cleaning technique

Place the toothbrush at the gum margin at an angle of 45°. Press the bristles against the teeth and gums softly. Move the toothbrush with small, vibratory to and from motions. At least 10 moves per tooth. Brush your teeth systematically: First the other surfaces, second the inner surfaces, lastly the chewing surfaces.

Interdental cleaning with dental floss

Pull about 50 cm dental floss from the dispenser. Wrap it around the middle fingers and pull tightly over the thumb (upper jaw) or index finger (lower jaw). Insert the dental floss between the teeth with light sawing motions. Form the dental floss into a U shape around half of the tooth and clean the interdental space with up and down movements. Then clean the adjacent half of the next tooth.

The right use of an interdental brush

The interdental brushes can be an alternative to dental floss, especially for greater interdental spaces. Use only in front of a mirror! Place the end of your interdental brush against the gums at an angle, at the edge of the space against the teeth. Push it all the way into the interdental space and move for- and backwards. Change your brush every two weeks.

The tongue cleaner

Reduces the tongue fur and the bacteria. Tongue cleaners help to combat bad breath. Helps for a better taste after brushing your teeth

Use: Use daily (morning and evening) with light pressure. From the root of the tongue pass the scraper towards the tip. Turn it around and remove all the loose particles.

Fluoride gel

Benefits: Remineralisation of the tooth enamel. Cavity prevention. Treatment for sensitive tooth necks

Use: Once a week spread the gel on your teeth before going to bed. Use your finger or a Q-tip. Let sit for two minutes before spitting it out.

Some advice before buying dental care products

The toothbrush should have: a short toothbrush head with soft and round bristles.
The dental floss should be: with fluoride. Unwaxed floss has a better effect.
The toothpaste should: contain fluoride, to prevent cavity. It shouldn't be one of the whitening toothpastes - these products cause dental abrasions and therefore damage your teeth.
The tongue cleaner should: have a part for scraping off the particles and should be exchanged every two months.
